About

Hi, I'm Kristen. I really hate getting my picture taken, so this is a temporary one which will stay up until cameras are so advanced they can magically transform frozen/uncomfortable expressions into magazine-worthy smiles, or someone snaps a half-way decent picture of me when I'm not looking and sends it in.

I live on the west coast of Canada in gorgeous Vancouver, British Columbia with one black cat (named after a philosopher) and one beagle (named after a cartoon character). I punish them on holidays with costumes... of which there is evidence. Don't worry, they're good sports about the whole thing.

Education-wise, I've got an Honours degree in History/Art with a focus on SE Asia, and have completed three programs for Animation, which means I'll leap at any excuse to draw silly pictures, and my bookshelves are crammed with everything from philosophy textbooks to comic books.

In previous-incarnations, I've worked in the video game industry and marketing. I've also renovated houses, landscaped (including fish ponds), and am a self-proclaimed 'Jill-of-all-Trades'. I fully admit to owning more power tools than high-heeled shoes.

I love learning new skills and meeting new people, and my personal philosophy is, "don't try something new once, try it twice", because that first experience might be atypically bad.
(ask me about my first snowboarding experience one day)

As for other interests, I'm the Membership Director for PAC (Porcelain Artists of Canada) and was the Vice Chair of the 2014 internationally attended convention. As Technical Editor of the PAC Magazine, I donate my time and mad-photoshopping-skillz, and I also maintain the official PAC Website.

Anything non-writing-related is on my other site, Bailiwick optics.
.
For non-writing/art interests, I love swimming, soccer, snowboarding, and routinely take very long walks/runs with Eva, my beagle. I also may have an unhealthy obsession with orchids, if you judge me on how many I own...

You'll notice I have long hair in the photo above, but every two years I chop it all off and donate it to Wigs for Kids BC, which provides wigs to underprivileged children with cancer, or other diseases, whose families can't afford to buy a wig for their child. I've donated six times already, and see no reason to stop until I'm bald, or grey-haired (no dyed or treated hair is allowed).

I'm also an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. GO HAWKS!
